Identifying your preferred learning style
When it comes to English, some students prefer to learn by reading and others by listening.
Some prefer to use print resources, while others will want to use digital resources.
Whatever your preferred style, the goal remains the same:
To become an expert on "Macbeth" so you can achieve your best result in the two assessment tasks.
During the first few weeks of the unit we will 'frontload"; building up your prior knowledge so reading the play is not so difficult.
To do this we will:
Watch a summary of the play.
Create Mindmaps to summarise characters.
Watch a workshop that discussed staging a scene from the play by the Shakespeare Theatre Company.
Share the reading of the first Act and you have had suggestions made, and shown, for annotating your text.
Watch an extract of the film version to show the context of time and place.
Identify sources/study guides that can help us to interpret the play.
Then it will be your turn to refine your knowledge of the play, its themes and its characters.
Your task is to become the Macbeth expert. Using class and homework time, develop your familiarity with the play and what is happening. This will then provide the basis of your first assessment task for "Macbeth"
Use your preferred learning style to select the resources that will best assist you to develop your knowledge and understandings.
I encourage you to continue working systematically through the play script as we have been doing in class in preparation for Task 2.
Remember the character chosen in Task 1 will continue to be your focus in Task 2.
